April 2006
Dear Folks where ever you are,
I’m to write monthy our friend Ian says. It’s getting late in April and the need for words is evident. Jan and I just watched CBS Sunday Morning and now it’s time to reflect or do washing or things like that. Changed the bedding last night so that job is done. Mower belt broke. Spent 9 to 2 yesterday trying to get a new one. It’ll arrive UPS on Thursday. Friend Dave mowed for me. It is so nice to have some friends who are not needy and can return favors. So few do so. We have always wondered about this. I’m beginning to think we exude no need for others aid or support. Maybe it is a Dorer problem. The website is now completely our website. Jan’s new images will regularly be added and I’ll do the talking so all’s well.
We have had some significant talks lately. Where do we go with the rest of our lives? Jan says she wishes happiness. I say she should paint less often and, Al, our friend says she should paint major works and not starter paintings for she has her following established. Jan has always wanted paintings for all people. I say the giclee’s fill that need. We have only two shows to announce, see calendar. Westlake is exciting. We can keep our Ohio people who wish to continue following her work. Also we will be able to physically handle two days of showing providing we do not party too much.
Jan has had her annual physical exam including tests and all is well from one end to the other. Life is pretty good. New bluebirds are nesting in our backyard. I finally read the directions of bluebird housing and decided to do it their way and not mine with house nestled in the trees. That didn’t work. New location took only two hours to attract a premarital couple. The other house has sparrows, as usual.
On CBS Sunday morning there was a story on Cezanne, the artist. We marveled at all of the paintings by all of the artists of the past and how much really good art is out there. I say we have lived through the glory years of art fairs, 70’s though the 90’s. It is less fashionable for folks to attend the shows and collect art today. Attendance is down for most shows. The good old fine art selected crafts shows have been replaced by thing and multiple thing shows. It has gotten to be like going to the discount stores. Guess how much I got off on this art object? Real collectors get to know the artist, like the artist, respect the ethics and integrity of the artist, and buy the artists work as the pocket book permits.
I used the term “thing”, and it reminded me of a joke. Thingy. Woman’s definition is anything under the hood of a car. Man’s definition is the thing on the back of a bra. Guess I’ll save other jokes for later. Do hope to see you down the road and please just say something after seeing this website. I do like emails, especially ones lauding Jan’s creativity. Reminds me of the couple who were here last week for the first time. They looked at the five big albums of Jan’s images painted over the last decade or so and commented on how creative she is and how the work continues to change. Those comments please to no end and both of us live for them.
Do wish to see you down the road or hear from you if seeing is not possible.
Love,
Gil (with Jan’s approval)
