February 2007
Dear “monthly news from the Dorers” enthusiasts,
‘Tis our anniversary day. Wedding that is. We’ve been married fifty one years. Now you all know how easy it has been for both of us. Never a cross word or frown or finger signs or anything like that. Just “Yes, Darling, I’ll be there in a minute.” “You are right, Darling.” “I’ll have the garbage out to the street for pickup immediately, Darling.” What a wonderful world it is for all those who understand the creative personality. It’s also such a gift to be ADHA or the spouse of one. Some of you know what I mean.
Jan is painting beautifully. She is just finishing a 40×60 horizontal abstract painting. I’ve had the mat cut and waiting for about eight years. It is just too big for her youthfully challenged physique but she is always ready to please me with whatever I wish. That’s going back to the previous paragraph. Life is good and never a dull moment around here.
Have two possible offers to market Jan’s work. Such offers come and they go. Someday one will be the answer to our nightmares or something like that. We’ll not hold our breath. There are so few out there with honesty and integrity as their hallmark.
Not sure where we will go to eat tonight. Have about four ideas. Last year we invited thirty-two to the Common Grill in Chelsea. It’s about a four and a half star restaurant. We had the downstairs room all to ourselves. It was a wonderful time. Lots of stories. I wrote about fifteen pages about our lives weaving in all the people attending. We even had a seventh grade boyfriend of Jan’s. This life has been full of all the emotions known to man or woman.
I took a couple days off from finishing this epistle. Jan is still working on the big painting. It’s almost ready for the frame. Everything is waiting for the signature and then it’s a go on framing. Every now and then I frame the piece before the signature is there and have to go back to the table with the painting.
Jan is in her headache period. She is so sensitive to light and we have snow and sun. That is a headache combination for her. The temperature has finally decided to agree to being winter. Rarely do we have temps that make the snow crunchy. It’s here to stay for the foreseeable future and will keep us downstairs working. No one with a reasonable amount of brains would go out in this weather unless necessary. I think I will close and start thinking about a profound dissertation for next month. Be on the lookout. It easily can be better than this. Note: Jan just hollered for me to look at the big painting. We both like it and will wait till tomorrow to look again before signing and framing it.
Love Gil
(with Jan looking over my shoulder)
