November 2009
Dear Breakfast Clubbers, Nov. 5, 2009
It’s time to let you know that we are alive and well and looking forward to Jan’s show, Celebrate, at the Chelsea Gallery starting Nov. 14, reception 6:00 to 9:00. It may be the last showing of her work being featured. Both of us love a party and the last opening was considered a “love in” for Jan. I marvel at how many friends we have made along the way. I still get many e-mails saying how much Jan’s work has meant to people. Some bought their work some 40 years ago.
We have scheduled the downstairs room at the Common Grill, thanks to Patti, for all those who wish to spend some time, maybe having a drink or two or a dinner or two. We will be eating at 5:00 with some of you. Fifteen have said they will be there at 5:00. Just heard the Bill and Joyce are coming from Cleveland. There is room for 32 so you can join us if you wish. The room is scheduled for the evening so the show can be attended, followed by a trip to the Common, followed by back to the Gallery for whatever purpose.
We will have some of Jan’s paintings available never shown before. Our new condo, 107 Willow Ct. Chelsea, Mi. 48118, is smaller than our Freer Rd. home and our need for art is much less. Maybe some of our collection of art by others will be available. We have had the opportunity to collect some fine art along the way. This journey has so many stories waiting to be told. The art often has an interesting story with it. Get me going and who knows what you might hear.
The previous policy of the Chelsea Gallery was original art only. We are now going to be showing Jan’s nineteen Giclee’s and two screened hand pulled prints, framed and unframed. They will be in a section of the gallery separate from the originals.
Seems as though this “Gil says” thing has caught on with some of you. We had 8700 hits in 45 days. I think that’s quite a few for a guy who got a C- in English most of the time. Grammar and technical thinking are not Gil’s strengths. Stories are. Remember,” perfection is something I greatly admire but do not wish to pursue”. Read this in a Upper Peninsula newspaper and never forgot it. I do so love small town and regional newspapers. They show the dreams of people fantasizing great accomplishments and rewards. I relate and have been and am there in thinking. Dreams are so wonderful and few get hurt by them.
Art Show Case Magazine has an article on Jan and the Chelsea Gallery. Jon Himlin is a talented publisher. He came up with the format and puts out a very interesting magazine filling a need for those who admire creativity and excellence. Our dear friend, Kim Brown, wrote the story on Jan. It will be in a few newspapers soon. Kim is and has been a long time friend. She has been a writer for Art Show Case Magazine for quite some time.
Just got back from Bridgett’s after duel haircuts. She said, “Jan, you are always in my mine. I look at your paintings and have such good feelings of love, peace, harmony. They make me feel so good and I cannot help but feel the closeness to you. Thank you for your talent.” Now does that not make us feel our life is not in vain.
I am needed upstairs so must close for now. Do hope you all have a great November followed by news of peace and respect for all people even the animals making life so much more enjoyable for all of us.
Love gil
